MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Supervises and/or participates in painting (interior and exterior), drywall (tape/texture included), soft tile laying, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, and light electrical repairs to buildings and equipment.
* Cleans, services, and makes repairs to a wide variety of heating, ventilating and related equipment.
* Installs doors and door hardware. Installs and repairs all types of roofing, cabinets, floors, windows, siding, and other related carpentry work.
* Makes general structural repairs on the journeyman level.
* Measures, cuts, and installs pipes for water lines, repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures.
* Makes estimates of labor, time, cost, and materials.
* Work effectively with co-workers.
* Regular work attendance and punctuality.
* Work overtime as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
* Duties are performed in both indoors and outdoors environment. Attendance at staff meetings is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
o Methods, tools, and practices used in painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and concrete trades.
o The use and care of tools and equipment employed in the building, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical trades.
o Occupational hazards and safety precautions of building, electrical, or mechanical trades.
o Standard practices, processes, and materials involved in trades related to general building maintenance.
Ability to:
o Perform various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of equipment and buildings.
o Be proficient in several trades, with working conditions, and the degree of supervision exercised differing according to the location and nature of assignments.
o Exercise technical independence in determining work methods and procedures.
o Carry out assignments that are received orally or through written instructions which may be accompanied by plans, sketches or diagrams.
o Supervise a small group of both skilled and semi-skilled workers.
o Make and work from sketches of plans for improvement or alteration of buildings and equipment.
o Make accurate estimates of time and materials required for repairs and maintenance work.
o Keep simple records and make reports.
o Meet the public effectively and give information regarding ground and building facilities.
o Obtain specialized licensing if requested (i.e. Pesticide/Herbicide Public Operator License)
o Lift 50 pounds.
o Perform tasks within standard times as provided.
Education and Experience:
Five years of journeyman experience in the construction or maintenance of buildings (i.e. electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting or mechanical trades).
Licenses, Certificates, and Other Requirements:
o Washington State Pesticide Public Operator's License may be expected for this position.
