Job Description

Manpower Healthcare is currently hiring a Medical Assistant to join a medical practice in Ashland, KY! Qualified applicants will perform various duties related to patient care and treatment as directed by attending providers in an outpatient clinic setting. Provide clerical and clinical support to medical staff in assigned area.



Essential Responsibilities and Duties:



1 Interviews patient independently behind closed doors to obtain information for providers for reconciliation of medications, allergy list, vital signs (weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, smoking status)

2 Demonstrates use of tact and patience when dealing with psychiatric patients and their families who are potentially in crisis or suicidal

3 Maintains patient confidentiality

4 Prioritizes patients by severity, provider, and appointment time

5 Phones or electronically sends in medications at direction of physician

6 Manages prescription requests

7 Intervenes when patient has a prescription or other issue to resolve problems and they have been unable to successfully resolve it

8 Distributes clinical faxes in EPIC for appropriate patients and mailbox for others

9 Distributes mail to appropriate mailboxes

10 Obtains prior authorizations for providers

11 Maintains drug samples inventory for office, distributes samples to providers as requested for patients, maintains log of samples given to patients with appropriate lot numbers, expiration dates, mg, number of tablets distributed, with pertinent patient information and documents samples given in EPIC

12 Acts as contact person for visiting pharmaceutical representatives and schedule appointments with MDs

13 Schedules patient referrals to other providers and provides referral source with appropriate clinical information

14 Performs other duties as assigned or directed.



Education and Experience:



* High school diploma or equivalent required.

* Graduate of a formalized accredited Medical Assistant/Nursing Assistant training program preferred

* Certification as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant is highly desired.

* Minimum six (6) months work experience.



Required Knowledge, Skills and Characteristics:



* Position requires contact and appropriate communication with patients, providers, and other support staff both within and outside of the work area.

* Position requires ability to respond quickly and calmly to varying demands from providers and patients. May require ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal test results.

* Position will be required to assist moving patients to and from exam room and to position and/or lift patients.

* Work is performed in a normal outpatient clinical environment.
