Job Description

Panel Tester job description. The wage range is $18.13 to $21.76.

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of and reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, Panel Testers perform electrical testing of control panels to ensure that company products fulfill customer specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

• Read schematic drawings and related notes and verify that proper electrical components have been installed in the control panels.

• Check panel component wiring to ensure that electrical connections are secure.

• Connect electrical service to supply proper electrical voltage to test control panels.

• Download PLC programs from company server and upload into PLCs. Set VFD parameters.

• Perform various operational tests to ensure that control panels fulfill product specifications. Check function of various control panel components such as timers, relays, lights, switches, heaters, starters, breakers, PLCs, and VFDs.

• Recognize control panel operational defects and perform repairs, as needed. Retest equipment to determine if repairs have corrected problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires education generally equivalent to two years of technical school in electricity and/or electronics course work and 1 to 3 years related experience in control panel assembly and electrical testing operations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The employee must possess considerable understanding of the principles of electricity and the ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints. The employee must possess the ability to operate a variety of equipment such as hand tools and electrical meters.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING REQUIRED: The employee must wear safety glasses, safety shoes, Arc flash PPE, as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work near sources of electrical shock.
