Job Description

Position Summary: Direct and oversee all phases of union plant operations to ensure the safe, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective production of quality products to serve our customers.

Responsibilities: Approve and oversee management of plant budget including allocation of funds, facilities upgrading, long range planning, manpower. Lead/direct safety and medical/industrial hygiene activities (i.e. Central Safety Committee, staff/plant general safety and safety liaison meetings, safety audit, RC-14001 management system compliance, etc.) to ensure compliance with established rules/regulations and to provide an environment for workers that minimizes potential hazards. Monitor and facilitate plant environment (i.e. air quality, wastewater, hazardous material disposal, etc.) activities to ensure plant compliance with federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations. Lead and encourage continuous quality improvement activities (i.e. internal transfer unit, ISO-9002, EQIP, first time right, etc.) in all phases of plant operation. Ensure that quality reviews/audits are carried out routinely and that resultant changes/modifications to existing policy and procedure are documented and adhered to. Lead plant wide efforts (i.e. cost, quality performance, capital budget and AOP reviews, etc.), to identify cost reduction opportunities. Facilitate cross function input and oversee development, planning and implementation of cost reduction initiatives. Focus on yield. Ensure overall customer service, customer contact and response time (i.e., on-time shipments, product quality) meet customer needs. Provide leadership that develops and sustains an environment which allows for individual growth and initiative and which allows creativity to flourish. Support, encourage and foster team development. Establish and maintain a positive and effective labor relations environment and participate in various labor relations meetings (i.e. grievances and jump meeting, contract negotiations, etc.). Support day to day operation of the plant and assist operations with troubleshooting. Lead and implement Production System best practices. Develop and maintain good working relationship with utilities & service providers.

Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Chemistry discipline. Expert knowledge of plant management and associated functions typically acquired over 10 years of relevant experience (requirement dependent upon plant size) Substantial management experience, preferably at least 5 years. Skills/Abilities. Demonstrate a working knowledge of plant processes, practices and procedures. Able to demonstrate an understanding of the "labor" relations environment. Able to demonstrate sound technical and business judgment related to general plant operations and priorities. Demonstrate an understanding of the statistical aspects of quality control. Able to use available information to make quick effective decisions as necessary. Able to demonstrate a leadership style that creates a productive work environment for staff members. Able to conceptualize the "big picture"; develop and communicate a vision and mission for the staff. Able to demonstrate practical applications and knowledge of the financial management process and project management practices.
