Job Description

Sand Blaster/ Painting Position open in Bellingham



This position is working for a company that is in the marine Industry and works in conjunction to/and with the Coast Guard.



Under general direction you will be washing, blasting, prepping, priming, and painting pumps according to QMS guidelines and work instructions. You will also operate various types of equipment such as blast pots, spray guns and mill gages. The Ideal candidate will have worked with and understands NACE 3 requirements.



Experience:

*Minimum of two (2) years sandblasting (garnet & glass bead) and spray-painting experience.

*Prior tank & vessel cleaning experience is preferred.

*Blasting & coating experience to include blasting equipment, airless and conventional sprays is preferred.

*Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select mix and apply.

*Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques.

*Aptitude in using appropriate tools.

*Good basic math skills.

*Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders, etc.

*Conscientious with great attention to detail.

*Good communication skills, ability to speak, read and write English.

*Successful completion of an apprenticeship preferred.



Education:

*High School Diploma or GED



Essential Functions & Responsibilities

*Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, deck coverings, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment.

*Shovels or pours abrasives, like sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.

*Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.

*Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.

*Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts.

*May examine finished parts to make sure conformance to specifications.

*Initiate problem solving and perform repairs on any coating equipment, in a timely manner.

*Apply protective coatings to interior/exterior surfaces of tanks and vessels

*Ability to read product specifications and apply protective coatings to meet specifications

*Construct minor scaffolding or platforms in accordance with federal regulations

*Operate boom or scissor lifts



Required Skills:

*Ability to navigate, comprehend and complete web-based work instructions such as Dozuki.

*Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.

*Good communication skills both verbal and written.

*Excellent hand-eye coordination.

*Skilled in safety systems and conformance including PPE

*Competent with environmental controls (air quality)
