Job Description

Sr. Controls Engineer Job Description:

1. Develops complex concepts and scientific methods for dynamic system control with an excellent understanding of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components and subsystem architectures and control functionality for targeted vehicle applications.

2. Develops physics-based models of control system architecture. Develop real-time control models and algorithms using advanced control technologies and software tools (Matlab, Labview, IQAN) for HIL testing and vehicle testing. Supports verification and integration activities.

3. Performs diverse and complex components and system modeling and analysis using advanced modeling tools (Matlab/Simulink/AMEsim) to validate control architecture requirements and solutions.

4. Oversee integration of complete systems, including control electronics, electrical motors, Databus communication, hydraulic pumps, valves, and actuation functions

5. Conducts component and system tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes. Interpret and analyzing testing results and provide recommendations and guides to design teams for performance improvement

6. Leads the Control Architecture activities, which includes architecture design and development, requirements development for interfaces, control functions, monitors and built-in automated system health monitoring and diagnosis

7. Develop advanced system and electrical/hydraulic component specifications/proposals by studying customer technical requirements (including system control, performance, reliability, and data communication requirements), to identify technology opportunities, feasibility, and risks

8. Develop system and component test plans and qualification test plans, procedures; generate test reports


Bachelor degree (BS) (or Professional Engineer (PE) Certificate) in an engineering or a science technical discipline; Masters or Ph.D advanced degree preferred.

Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through more than 10 years of related experience in the field of model development and real-time control in mobile, industrial or aerospace markets.

Proficient in model-based control system development using tools such as Matlab/Simulink, AMESim, and real-time control implementation in both hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation and prototype systems required

Thorough knowledge of the System engineering discipline include electronics, electrical motors, hydraulic components, system application, and broad experience of controlling such components and sub-systems required

Solid understanding of electric drive technology and motor control software expected. Experience with mechanical interfacing and cooling designs preferred.
