Job Description

Our client is seeking a Tool Designer OR Tool Design Engineer to support the development of new products, improvements in existing products, cost reductions, and quality improvements related to tooling. This would include but not be limited to injection mold and fixture design, tool manufacturing, all related tool designs and drawings, piece part models and documentation of all electronic data. This is a direct hire role located in Plymouth, MN.

Position Duties:

* The primary responsibility of this position will involve working with existing tooling and new tooling projects to support client's manufacturing and New Product Development.

* Oversee the design of tooling for client's manufacturing facilities utilizing both internal and external vendor resources and conducting appropriate preliminary and final part and tool design reviews that support Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Quality, and cost objectives.

* Design for manufacturability by utilizing palletization, ridged milling, and other processes that improve throughput and quality, as well as support repair and replacement of components to reduce costs and lead times.

* Maintain accurate documentation within client's CAD software and PDM systems while maintaining associative parametric designs at all times. This will include developing new designs from existing legacy design data to re-establish associativity within the CAD system.

* Perform critical analysis of 3D part model data for mold manufacturability, processing, and quality.

* Support project management by providing quotation, design, financial, and timeline data for documentation and timeline tracking within the Project Management Office (PMO) software.

Position Qualifications:

* Bachelors or Associates degree in related field to tool making / tool design

* 3+ years of experience within tool design

* Basic knowledge of thermoplastic material properties and processing, basic tool design principles, and tool trouble shooting.

* SolidWorks proficiency

* Knowledge of metal forming and machining practices including CNC programming, EDM sinker, and wire machine process and programming, as well as knowledge on materials, heat treatment, and broad general manufacturing processes.
