Job Description

Health and Safety Supervisor



Manpower Professional is currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Supervisor for our client located near New Haven, WV. Our client produces and supplies refined metal alloys to the steel industry. Knowledge of and experience in the Steel, Ferroalloys or related industry is a plus. The Health and Safety Supervisor will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements.



The Health and Safety Supervisor reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for but not limited to the following:

* Coordinate a regular meeting with team to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events.

* Prepare for, and participate in audits such as 18001, COR and/or Owner audits.

* Assist in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the Health and Safety programs



* Regularly audit the SMP for compliance.

* Organize and schedule required safety staff and first aid coverage.

* Provide direction, support and resource to all site managers, supervisors, foremen and safety advisors.

* Ensure that all incidents are reported immediately.

* Calculate total recordable incident rates. Determine the true cost of accidents.

* Participate and assist the supervisors, foreman and safety advisors in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions where necessary.

* Identify hazards, determine regulatory requirements, implement corrective actions, and train personnel in required changes

* Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed.

* Ensure injured workers are offered modified duties (if necessary) and documentation has been completed. Monitor and follow up on modified workers in the field.

* Ensure supervisors are verifying field staff training and competencies.

* Ensure new hires are orientated and all required documentation is completed accurately and forwarded to the head office.

* Communicate corporate safety initiatives and goals.

* Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards, to ensure compliance.

* Master the use of the Code of Federal Regulations (constructions and general industry).

* Complete risk analysis for key jobs and processes.

* Develop and maintain a Site Safety Management Plan (SMP) to ensure a safe work

* Ensure safety boards with postings including but not limited to: Health and safety policy, inspection and audit results, hazard assessment, location of first aid, etc. are maintained and current.

* Communicate, coach and assist the field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met.



Requirements:

* Occupational Health and Safety Degree, Diploma or Certificate would be an asset.

* Minimum 5 year Health and Safety field experience or the equivalent in related work experience demonstrating aggressive worker's compensation claims management

* Minimum 3 year of supervisory experience

* Demonstrates working knowledge of all State, Federal, OSHA, and EPA regulatory requirements

* Proficient in Microsoft office applications

* The ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities
