Cost & Inventory Accountant

Job Description



This is a key position that reports to the CFO and is responsible for analyzing costs and variances related to the manufacturing and purchasing of products. This includes responsibility for ensuring sound inventory controls are in place and providing support to the operations teams in the performance of the physical inventory process.

Essential Functions

Detailed oriented with the ability to see the big picture and communicate effectively with employees in the operations and accounting departments.

Become a business partner with plant management to support product costing and inventory management.

Perform analytical studies with regard to manufacturing spending, actual versus standard costs, material yields, overhead and other components.

Develop a thorough comprehension of product manufacturing cost flows and possess a strong ability to identify problems, establish facts and present solutions. This includes analyzing changes in production and raw materials input to determine effects on product costs.

Analyze plant performance on a daily/monthly basis and provide performance reports. Prepare month end cost adjustments and journal entries related to the month end close process.

Assist in the physical inventory process, reconcile physical inventory counts vs the GL, investigate material variances and propose adjustments as needed. Run functions to calculate average costs and ensure entries are made in compliance with GAAP. Prepare and review inventory reports and reconciliations throughout the month to assist in properly managing the control of inventory.

Facilitate and assist in preparing the report on "at risk" inventory

Work on special projects or perform other financial analysis when needed.


* BBA or BS in Accounting or Finance with 3-5 years of cost accounting experience using an ERP system while working for a manufacturing company.

* Analytical thinker that is excellent at focusing on the details and providing accurate information.

* Proficient knowledge and application of GAAP.

* Able to multitask, prioritize and stay organized.


* CPA License or Master's Degree

* Experience working with Microsoft NAV
