Primary responsibility is inspection, sampling and testing of designated manufacturing processes within the pet food plant. Communicates with various supervisors within the company on quality issues. Documents daily testing results on designated quality assurance forms.

JOB PURPOSE

Laboratory assistants analyze the various raw materials and formulated products to ensure that guarantees are met. Responsibility exists for knowing and following standard safety procedures. Training is received in products recognition and standard laboratory procedures.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Performs routine laboratory analysis on raw materials as well as formulated products.

* Communicates with various supervisors within the company on quality issues.

* Samples formulated products from various size bags in the warehouse.

* Writes a daily laboratory report summarizing the daily activities.

* Performs other duties as assigned within the limits of training, and physical and mental abilities.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Eye-hand coordination.

* Ability to lift 50 pound bags up to 20 times per day.

* Ability to climb onto trucks, trailers and rail cars approximately 3 times per week.



COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

* Knowledge of basic chemistry.

* Reading and writing skills to complete reports.

* Ability to recognize the appearance and general characteristics of the various raw materials and formulated products.



TEMPERAMENT ATTRIBUTES

* Skills in relating with people to help coworkers and supervisors.

* Ability to organize daily activities in order to maximize time.



WORK ENVIRONMENT

* Employees in this position must be able to perform under the following conditions:

o Work in a laboratory environment.

o Occasional work in the various manufacturing plants to obtain samples. This may require the wearing of protective equipment such as a hard hat and ear protection.
